About Dr. van Boxtel

Dr. Benjamin S. van Boxtel was born and raised in Wisconsin. He earned his undergraduate degree and doctorate in medicine from the Medical Scholars program at the University of Wisconsin.

Dr. van Boxtel completed his cardiothoracic surgical residency and fellowship training at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center and has advanced training in the fields of mechanical circulatory support and surgical approaches to heart failure, as well as the treatment and management of aortic disease.

Dr. van Boxtel is also a Major in the United States Army and is actively serving as a reservist in the Medical Corps.

Dr. van Boxtel performs all aspects of adult cardiac surgery. He has expertise in the treatment of connective tissue disorders, aortic aneurysms, aortic dissection, bicuspid aortic valve disease and other aortic disease using both conventional, endovascular and hybrid approaches. Some of these procedures include aortic valve repair, valve-sparing root replacements, aortic arch replacements, and TEVAR procedures.

Dr. van Boxtel also has expertise in the surgical treatment of hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy (HOCM/ HCM) with the septal myectomy procedure.

Dr. van Boxtel is fluent in Spanish.
